Rugby, Rugby, Rugby

Rugby, Rugby, Rugby....  I never thought when I first saw Rugby almost 20 years ago I would still be involved with it.  In fact I made a point of intentionally pushing myself away from the sport and the club all together.  Last year I was asked to go watch my old team play a another team we use to beat up on regular basis.  I was stunned with what I saw.  The team I knew and loved was gone, replaced by a bunch of some the most non rugby playing individuals I had seen.  The number of cardinal rules that were being broken just shocked me.  They argued with each other, ran away from suport and showed little knowledge of the game.  It reminded of the first team I played with in germany, LOL.  I volunteered to start coaching, because it was obvious that the team would soon die without any help.

As of now we have a group college kids playing in a mens division club.  It has taken almost a year but using sound principles of rugby (tackle, ruck, set).  We are making progress.  Slowly but surely we are making prgress.  My next goal is to get more local adults involved with the team.  This is where I am uncertain.  I don't want to drag the drunks from the bar.  This has never worked in the past.
